About GCTEQA

Advancing Quality, Integrity & Accountability in Theological and Faith-Based Education

The Global Commission for Theological Education & Quality Assurance, Inc. (GCTEQA) is being established as an independent, private accreditation and quality-assurance organization dedicated to strengthening theological, religious, ministry-focused, and faith-based educational institutions. GCTEQA promotes institutional excellence through published standards, evidence-based evaluation, responsible governance, academic quality, student protection, transparency, and continuous improvement. Our approach respects the unique mission, religious identity, educational philosophy, and traditions of each institution while maintaining clear expectations for integrity, accountability, and educational effectiveness.

“Our purpose is not simply to award accreditation—it is to encourage institutions to demonstrate quality, strengthen their operations, protect the people they serve, and continuously improve.”

Committed to Educational Excellence

GCTEQA exists to encourage stronger institutions, responsible educational practices, meaningful accountability, and continuous improvement across theological, religious, ministry-focused, and faith-based education.

Our Guiding Principles

01

Mission Respect

GCTEQA recognizes that institutions serve different faith traditions, communities, missions, and educational purposes. Institutions are evaluated within the context of their published identity while remaining accountable to applicable GCTEQA standards.

Standards That Support Integrity, Fairness & Continuous Improvement

04

Student & Public Protection

Accreditation review considers whether institutions provide clear information, responsible student services, fair policies, appropriate records management, and meaningful protections for learners.

GCTEQA believes meaningful accreditation should strengthen institutions while protecting the integrity of education and the interests of the communities they serve.

GCTEQA’s accreditation and quality-assurance activities are guided by principles designed to promote fairness, transparency, institutional responsibility, educational quality, and public trust.

02

Evidence Over Claims

Accreditation decisions are based on documented policies, institutional practices, educational records, outcomes, and other credible evidence rather than promises or unsupported representations.

05

Independent Judgment

Accreditation decisions should be free from improper financial, personal, organizational, or external influence and should reflect fair review of the complete institutional record.

03

Institutional Integrity

GCTEQA expects institutions to operate honestly, represent their programs accurately, protect academic records, maintain ethical practices, and communicate truthfully with students and the public.

06

Continuous Improvement

Accreditation is not viewed as a one-time event. Institutions are expected to review outcomes, address weaknesses, strengthen operations, and demonstrate ongoing improvement.

Independence & Governance

Protecting the Integrity of Accreditation Decisions

GCTEQA is structured to support responsible governance, ethical administration, fair evaluation, and independent accreditation decision-making. The organization maintains a meaningful separation between corporate governance, day-to-day administration, institutional evaluation, and accreditation decisions. This structure is designed to help protect the integrity of the accreditation process and reduce the risk of improper financial, personal, organizational, or external influence. Accreditation decisions are based on published standards, documented evidence, evaluator findings, institutional responses, and the judgment of the appropriate accreditation body.

🛡️

Governance Oversight

The governing body is responsible for organizational policy, fiduciary oversight, strategic direction, and protection of GCTEQA’s mission and integrity.

📋

Professional Evaluation

Qualified evaluators review institutional evidence and assess compliance with applicable GCTEQA standards.

⚖️

Independent Decision-Making

Accreditation decisions are made through established review procedures and are not guaranteed by fees, donations, affiliations, partnerships, or personal relationships.

📄

Due Process & Accountability

Institutions are provided appropriate notice, opportunities to respond to findings, and access to applicable reconsideration or appeal procedures under published policy.

“No institution, donor, founder, officer, partner, or fee payer may purchase, guarantee, direct, or predetermine an accreditation outcome.”

Our Scope

Serving Diverse Faith Traditions, Educational Models & Institutional Missions

GCTEQA is designed to serve eligible theological, religious, ministry-focused, and faith-based educational institutions representing diverse traditions, denominations, educational philosophies, and delivery models. GCTEQA recognizes that institutions may differ significantly in size, structure, location, religious identity, student population, credential offerings, and methods of instruction. Accreditation review is therefore mission-sensitive while maintaining common expectations for educational quality, integrity, governance, transparency, student protection, and continuous improvement.

Faith & Religious Traditions

GCTEQA may serve institutions representing Christian denominations and traditions, Jewish and rabbinical education, Islamic religious education, interfaith education, nondenominational institutions, and other eligible faith-based or theological traditions.

Institutional Types

Eligible institutions may include theological colleges and universities, seminaries, divinity schools, Bible colleges, ministry institutes, religious training schools, leadership institutes, and other faith-based postsecondary educational organizations.

Educational Delivery

GCTEQA’s quality-assurance framework may accommodate traditional campus-based, online, distance-learning, hybrid, digital, competency-based, and other appropriately structured educational delivery models.

Credentials & Programs

Institutions may offer eligible certificate, diploma, undergraduate, graduate, theological, ministry, leadership, religious studies, and related educational programs consistent with their legal authority and published mission.

“GCTEQA evaluates institutions only within the scope, programs, locations, delivery methods, and credential levels specifically reviewed and approved through its accreditation process.”

“Accreditation of an institution should not be interpreted as approval of programs, locations, credential levels, or activities outside the scope specifically identified by GCTEQA.”

Our Commitment to Transparency & Public Trust

Accreditation Requires Integrity, Accuracy & Accountability

GCTEQA is committed to conducting accreditation and quality-assurance activities in a manner that is transparent, responsible, and consistent with published standards and procedures. Institutions, students, stakeholders, and the public should be able to understand what GCTEQA accreditation means, what it does not mean, how decisions are made, and how concerns may be addressed.

Accurate Public Representation

GCTEQA expects institutions to describe their accreditation status, programs, credentials, legal authority, and institutional claims truthfully and without exaggeration.

Recognition Transparency

GCTEQA clearly discloses its own recognition status and does not imply governmental approval, U.S. Department of Education recognition, CHEA recognition, or other recognition that has not been formally obtained.

Conflict-of-Interest Protections

GCTEQA maintains policies and procedures intended to identify, disclose, and appropriately manage conflicts of interest involving governance, evaluators, commissioners, staff, and accreditation decisions.

Complaints & Due Process

GCTEQA maintains procedures for receiving and reviewing appropriate complaints and for providing institutions access to applicable reconsideration or appeal processes.

Public Accountability

GCTEQA seeks to maintain accurate information regarding institutional accreditation status, applicable scope, standards, policies, and significant accreditation actions.

Public trust depends on truthful representation. GCTEQA expects both the Commission and the institutions it evaluates to communicate accreditation information accurately and responsibly.

Current Recognition Status: GCTEQA is being established as an independent, private, voluntary accreditation and quality-assurance organization and is not currently recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
